"SLAVE MENTALITY (The Black Experience Series)" Canvas Print (24"x36")
“Slave Mentality” is a common phrase associated with the black community. What is it exactly? To put it simply, it is like joining the herd. Basically, you’re supposed to do what is stereotypically expected of you from your parents and some portions of society. For example: go to school, get good grades, work hard, do what you’re told, etc. The intent behind this is to ultimately get a good job, contribute to society, and “join the herd.” There is definitely nothing wrong with getting a meaningful job. However, most times it’s just the beginning of an endless cycle. Shouldn’t we want more? Shouldn’t we strive for things like ownership and entrepreneurship. Unfortunately, we just fall into the cycle of doing what we’re told for the benefit of someone else. Yeah, we make money, but are we truly happy? Are we happy making other people millions? Are we happy helping others build generational wealth? No, but most of us are satisfied with just getting by.
This topic delves much deeper. I wrote this as a summary and a description of my inspiration for this artistic piece. I encourage everyone who reads this to do their research. Let this be a catalyst for conversation. Teach differently from the way we were taught. “Slave Mentality” is real. Recharge and change your mindset!!!...

Creation can simply be defined as: the act of making, inventing, or producing. How can we define creation with regard to existence? The posing of this question was my inspiration for this original work of art. This piece is merely my depiction of that, "the creation of existence." I wanted you, the audience, to have some fun with this one. Everyone views things differently. Therefore, this artwork can be interpreted many ways, making it a great conversational piece.
